Standard Channel Letter Signs
Standard channel letters are designed to be three dimensional signs. A channel is usually custom fabricated from material like aluminum sheet metal. This forms the backs of the letters. The letter sides are created by bending strips of aluminum around the back.
Most channel letters are illuminated these days and lights are installed inside each letter. One can choose LED or neon lights, depending on needs. Each letter is then painted and a translucent material is usually installed to form the front of the letters. Everything is trimmed and shaped to fit the original design.
Mounting Options
Channel letter signs can be mounted in three basic ways:
- Flush mount – the sign is usually placed directly on the side of the building.
- Raceway – a raceway is a box in the shape of the sign back. It serves as a mounting structure and box for the electrical wiring and components.
- Wireway – wireway mounts can be used as back plates. They usually only contain wiring for the sign.
Exposed Neon
Some channel letter signs use neon lights exposed to the elements. They are covered with a protective coating of acrylic.
Halo Letters
